Beginning in the early 19th century, competitions have held an important place in Taiwanese tea history as tea grew into one of Taiwan’s most prized and profitable industries. Brewing fresh, high-end loose leaf tea became a part of Taiwanese culture, and teaware developed that allowed professional tea tasters to compare teas fairly and evenly. Today, modern oolong aficionados are practicing the age-old art of competitive brewing and holding tasting sessions to share their love for oolong.

The tasting set is essential item for oolong lovers (we use it ourselves when we’re selecting teas to offer to our customers). To use the tasting set, add 2.5g of loose oolong to the lidded cup, fill the cup with boiling water (100°c) and cover. After three minutes, decant the tea through the notched teeth into the bowl (pour quickly to avoid spills). Use the tasting spoon to bring the tea to your mouth. Swirl the tea around in your mouth and make notes on its flavor and body. You may also choose to inhale the scent of the heated tea leaves.

Returns
